In this guide we will be installing OpenVPN and configuring it to work on Windows 8.1.  If you've installed it on any other windows operating system this should be a breeze.  Honestly if you've ever installed anything on a windows machine it should be up and running in under 15 minutes.

  1.   First thing first we want to jump on over to

  2.   Download the appropriate Windows Installation (either 32 bit or 64)

  3.   Right Click the setup file and Run as Administrator.
      (openvpn-install-2.3.6-I603-x86_64, If you do not have Tap installed you will be prompted to install it YOU MUST INSTALL Tap for Windows to use Openvpn).
You must install Tap for Openvnc to work

 5.   Click OpenVPN Configuration Generator.LiquidVPN Config Generator for OpenVPn button

 6.   Click desired setting. (I Strongly Recommend checking the Auto Authentication) For more detailed information on these settings click Here.

Click Create OpenVPN Configuration Files.

Save and open OVPN_config.

Go to your Openvpn installation directory (C:\Program Files\OpenVPN).  Copy files from OVPN_config (*Step 8) over to your OpenVPN config folder(C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\Config)


10.  Now it’s time to go to your Openvpn shortcut. Right click the shortcut and go to properties. Under the default tab (*Shortcut tab) Click on the “Advanced…” Button, Click “Run as Administrator”.

11.  Open OpenVPN via Shortcut; it will open up an iconMonitor with a lockin the taskbar.  Right click the icon and select a VPN you would like to connect!
